Terms of use
Draft updated Document version 2026-10-26-review-2
Lumen is a personal record-organising tool, not medical care. These terms set out the proposed conditions for using it, its important limitations and the rights that remain yours. Read them with the privacy policy and medical disclaimer.

Operator and document status
Lumen and Lumen Health are service names, not a statement of a registered legal entity. In this draft, we, us and our refer to the person or organisation operating the service. That operator's full legal name, registration details where applicable, service address and legal and privacy contact have not yet been confirmed for publication.
The date above is a drafting date, not an effective date for a new contract. The final operator details, effective date, intended markets and applicable-law arrangements must be supplied, and these terms must be reviewed for each intended market before public launch. Calling the service a private preview does not exempt it from applicable law.
Eligibility and personal use
The service is intended only for people who are at least 18 and have legal capacity to enter the agreement where they live. If the applicable age of majority is higher, that higher age applies. Use your own account to manage your own records. Family, child, carer, clinician, employer, insurer and laboratory accounts are not supported by this preview.
Do not use Lumen to deliver clinical services, make treatment, employment or insurance decisions about another person, or maintain records subject to an institutional or local-only hosting requirement that has not been verified. Being able to open the website does not mean the service is authorised or suitable in your country.
Not medical care or emergency monitoring
Lumen does not diagnose, prevent or treat illness, prescribe medicines, interpret medical images, provide a clinician review or establish a healthcare professional-patient relationship. It does not promise a health outcome, longer life or a clinically validated wellness score or biological-age estimate. Regulatory classification depends on actual functionality and use, not this disclaimer.
Do not start, stop or change treatment, ignore symptoms or delay professional advice because of a result, chart, range label or educational article. An in-range result does not rule out illness; an out-of-range result is not a diagnosis. Missing or unassessed information is not a reassuring result.
For a suspected medical emergency, call your local emergency number or seek immediate emergency care. Lumen does not continuously monitor records, notify a clinician of an abnormal result or contact emergency services. Do not wait for an upload, AI reading or support reply before seeking help.
Optional AI and your review
Uploading a document does not send it to AI. AI reading is a separate, optional request for that document, made through the provider named in the upload screen. You may continue without AI. Your document can contain identifiers and sensitive information that are sent with the original when you choose AI; processing is not limited to the measurements eventually displayed.
AI and manual entry can omit, invent or misread information, including signs, decimal points, dates, units, test names and reference limits. Review each included item against the original before saving, and ask a qualified clinician to interpret medical significance. Neither a model confidence value nor your confirmation makes a reading clinically validated.
Saved charts reflect the entries you confirm, not a complete clinical record or a prediction. Your review responsibilities do not waive mandatory rights or transfer the operator's own legal duties to you.
Your account and security
Use an email address you control. Lumen sends a one-time code to that address to create an account or sign in; successful use verifies mailbox access. You do not need a password or full name to start. You may add, change or clear your name later in Settings. Protect your mailbox and device, and sign out on shared devices. Do not share sign-in codes, impersonate another person or let someone else use your account to process their records.
A code expires after ten minutes and can be used once. Sending another code invalidates the previous code. Request limits apply. Keep access to your email to recover access if a passkey is lost; Lumen does not provide a mailbox-recovery or email-change workflow in this preview. When an older unverified account first signs in with a code, its previous sessions and unverified password credentials are invalidated as a security precaution. Keep independent copies of important reports. If you suspect unauthorised access, stop using the affected session and notify your verified preview contact; a permanent public security contact must be provided before launch.
After verifying your email and signing in, you may add an optional passkey in Settings. Adding or removing one requires a sign-in within the past ten minutes. Your browser or device manages its security prompt and private key; Lumen stores only the public credential and supporting metadata, never your biometrics or device PIN. Only add passkeys on devices or password-manager accounts you control. A passkey is tied to the website address where it was added, so Preview and live website passkeys are separate. Removing it in Settings prevents future sign-ins with that credential but does not sign out existing sessions or delete the saved copy from your device. Email-code sign-in remains available.
You are responsible for taking reasonable precautions, not automatically liable for every unauthorised action. These responsibilities do not excuse a security failure or other breach for which the operator is legally responsible.
Your records and the permission to process them
You retain your rights in the records and information you supply; third-party rights in a laboratory report or other source remain with their owners. Supply only material you may lawfully use for this purpose. Remove unnecessary identity numbers or other people's information from an upload copy without altering the clinical meaning, and keep an unchanged original separately.
To provide the service you request, you grant the operator a limited, non-exclusive permission to host, copy, securely transmit, display and technically process that material, using necessary service providers. Optional AI processing requires its separate permission. This is not an ownership transfer, a right to publish your records, or permission to sell them, use them in advertising or train a Lumen model.
This permission lasts only as needed for the requested service and lawful retention described in the privacy policy. It is not a substitute for a lawful basis, a required sensitive-data consent or an international-transfer safeguard. Acknowledging the privacy policy is not blanket consent to all processing.
Acceptable use
Do not submit unlawful material, malicious files or information you have no authority to process; access another account; misrepresent the service as medical advice; bypass security or rate limits; or disrupt, overload or abuse the platform or its providers. Do not use automated bulk extraction to obtain other people's data or to defeat access restrictions.
You may use the interface and educational material for your personal record management. The software, branding and original site content remain protected by their owners' intellectual-property rights. No restriction in these terms overrides a legal exception for accessibility, interoperability, permitted research or other activity that cannot lawfully be prohibited.
Availability, limits and charges
Preview features may be incomplete, interrupted, changed or withdrawn for maintenance, security, legal requirements or service changes. File-size, format, upload and AI limits apply. Provider outages, account credits and rate limits may prevent AI reading. There is no promise of uninterrupted access, a particular support response time, unlimited processing or permanently free AI.
The current preview has no in-app payment or subscription checkout. Any future paid plan must disclose its price, renewal and cancellation terms before you expressly agree; these terms do not authorise a charge or automatic conversion to a paid plan. Applicable refund and consumer rights cannot be displaced by a preview label.
Keep independent copies and do not use Lumen as your only medical archive, backup or channel for urgent communications. This advice does not relieve the operator of duties to protect data or provide remedies required by law.
Display formats and external resources
Dates use an unambiguous text-month format, such as 05-Jul-2026. Activity times currently use UTC+8 and do not automatically adjust to your location. Original report units are retained; values from different methods, laboratories or units are not necessarily comparable. Range flags refer only to reviewed source limits, not personalised treatment targets.
Lumen is independent of clinics, laboratories and national health portals. External links are informational, not endorsements, partnerships or automatic integrations. Third-party sites have their own terms and privacy practices. Recommendations, eligibility and emergency services can differ by country.
Suspension, stopping use and your records
The operator may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address suspected unlawful use, a material breach, security threats, a binding legal requirement or a discontinued preview. The response should be proportionate. Where lawful and practicable, notice, an explanation, an opportunity to correct the issue and a reasonable chance to download records should be provided. An urgent security restriction may need to take effect first.
You can stop using Lumen, download available originals, delete saved reports or discard unfinished uploads. Account closure is not currently a self-service feature; it requires a verified request to the operator. Signing out or stopping use does not delete an account or its records. Suspension alone is not permission to retain data indefinitely, and deletion remains subject to the actual process and lawful limits in the privacy policy.
Service assurances and limits
To the extent applicable law permits and the restriction is fair and reasonable, the preview is provided on an as-is and as-available basis without an additional promise that it will be error-free, compatible with every device or fit for a clinical or other purpose outside its stated personal-record function. No promise of medical accuracy or regulatory certification is made.
This does not exclude an express commitment the operator actually makes, any mandatory standard of reasonable care and skill, or any warranty, remedy or obligation that the law does not allow to be excluded. A general disclaimer cannot override a specific representation or an applicable legal duty.
Liability and rights that cannot be excluded
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, wilful misconduct, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Mandatory consumer, privacy, data-protection and other statutory rights and remedies remain in effect.
Subject to those protections, and only where lawful, fair and reasonable, the operator is not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable as a consequence of its breach. To the same extent, it excludes loss of business profits, revenue, business opportunity or goodwill arising from business use that this personal-use service does not support. These exclusions do not automatically exclude a consumer's recoverable direct loss or compensation for a breach of data-protection duties.
Liability depends on the facts, causation and applicable law. An AI warning, a third-party-provider reference, your acceptance of these terms or the service being free does not by itself release the operator from responsibility. This draft does not impose a zero-liability clause, a monetary liability cap or a shortened statutory claims period.
Responsibility for deliberate unlawful misuse
To the extent permitted by law, the operator may seek recovery of reasonable, proven losses directly caused by your fraud or deliberate unlawful misuse, including a third-party claim concerning material you knowingly had no right to supply. Any disputed amount remains subject to lawful determination, not an automatic charge or penalty.
This does not make you responsible for the operator's or a provider's own negligence, breach of contract or unlawful conduct. It does not impose an unlimited indemnity or penalise a good-faith complaint, security report or exercise of legal rights.
Complaints, applicable law and disputes
During the preview, raise a service or privacy concern with the person who gave you verified access, without sending a password or an unnecessary full medical report. A named operator and monitored public contact must replace this interim route before general release. If you have no verified contact, do not provide additional sensitive information until one is available.
This draft does not select a governing country, exclusive court or mandatory arbitration process. Applicable law and jurisdiction remain determined by the law until a suitable clause is reviewed and agreed. Nothing requires you to give up a regulator complaint, a competent court or tribunal, an available collective remedy, or urgent relief. Attempting an informal resolution is not a prerequisite to exercising those rights and does not suspend a legal deadline.
Changes to the service and these terms
An adopted version must have an identified operator, an effective date and an acceptance process appropriate to the intended markets. Material changes must be brought to users' attention before taking effect, with fresh agreement where required. Merely updating a date or silently posting a document does not prove informed acceptance.
Changes must not retroactively remove accrued rights, authorise an unrelated use of existing health data or convert optional AI processing into mandatory processing. A new purpose or provider arrangement requires appropriate notice, assessment and any permission required by law. If you do not accept a proposed change, you may stop using the service and exercise the record and privacy rights described above.
How these documents work together
Read these terms with the privacy policy and medical disclaimer. The privacy policy explains processing; it is not a waiver of rights. The medical disclaimer explains product limits; it does not override mandatory duties. Any conflict must be resolved consistently with applicable law and the protections stated above.
If a provision is unenforceable, it is ineffective to that extent and the remaining provisions apply only where they can lawfully stand independently. No failure to enforce a right is a permanent waiver. No assignment, business transfer or event outside the operator's control removes mandatory privacy, consumer or data-protection obligations.
